Beef taco is a great idea for a quick, delicious and satisfying meal. Especially when the weather is beautiful and you wish to eat outside. Keep in mind that eating tacos can be a little tricky and sometimes messy, mainly when children (in my case, husband as well) are eating them. It’s also a very fun meal, considering you can add as many fillings as you wish. At home, it was the way I found to make my children eat lettuce and tomatoes. 🙂
I use lean meat, which can toughen if it’s overcooked. So pay close attention while cooking and turn off the heat while the meat is still juicy.
This recipe can be doubled or tripled if you have company or your kids have friends over. Trust me, it’s a crowd pleaser!
- 1 lb ground lean beef
- 3 green onions finely chopped
- 2 tsp chili powder (mild or medium)
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- ½ tsp dried oregano
- ¼ tsp ground black pepper
- ⅓ cup chili sauce
- 1 Tbsp worcestershire sauce
- 8 corn tortillas (store bought, around 6 in. diameter)
- 1 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- In a wide non-stick frying pan over medium-high heat, cook the meat stirring frequently until lightly brown
- Add the green onions and cook until soft (about 5 minutes)
- Stir in the dry seasonings until well combined
- Reduce heat and add the worcestershire and the chili sauces and continue to stir until everything is heated through (1 minute)
- Pour in a bowl and keep warm
- Wipe clean the same frying pan and return to medium-high heat until hot
- Lightly brush both sides of the tortilla with the olive oil
- One at a time, place tortilla on the frying pan for 30 seconds on one side, until slightly crisp
- Turn over tortilla, fold in half with the cooked side in, and cook another 30 seconds
- Transfer to paper towel to drain
- Repeat the same process with all remaining tortillas
- Keep tortillas warm until all are done
- Fill each taco shell with 3 spoons of the ground beef and add the filling to your taste
