Pear Wine Recipe

Ingredients
  • 4 ripe pears, peeled
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 1½ cups red wine
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 3 cloves
  • 4 lemon slices
Instructions
  1. As soon as you peel the pears, rub them with lemon juice for flavor and so they won't get brown spots;
  2. In a saucepan over low heat, add the red wine, sugar, cinnamon, cloves and lemon slices. Simmer, stirring occasionally, until sugar dissolves completely;
  3. Keep sauce in simmer for 15 minutes;
  4. Add the pears and continue simmering for another 15 minutes (for firm pears. Longer if you want softer pears), turning the pears around in the sauce to ensure even coloring;
  5. If possible, it's better to leave the pears in the syrup overnight;
  6. To serve, place the pears in individual plates, warm the syrup and drizzle over the pears. You may add a scoop of vanilla ice cream if you wish.
