This Easy Tiramisu Recipe, whose translation is “pick me up”, is one of the most popular dessert recipes in Italy. No wonder! It’s light, just the right amount of sweet and, in my opinion, a little piece of heaven. I hope you enjoy my easy tiramisu recipe as much as my family and friends do!
Since we are in the subject, I’d like to share some curiosities with you. A pastry chef from Treviso, called Roberto Linguanotto, claims to have invented the Tiramisu, in the 60’s. He even has an official website sponsored by the Treviso city. But I also read on the internet that this easy tiramisu recipe dates back to the Rennaissance, when the women prepared this dessert for their husbands to enhance their love-making!
If not true, at least the second story makes a great conversation piece when you serve this dessert!
- 3 egg yolks
- 4 Tbsp sugar
- ½ lb. Mascarpone cheese
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 24 Ladyfingers
- 1½ cups strong brewed coffee
- 3 Tbsp brandy or rum (optional)
- 2 Tbsp cocoa powder
- In a bowl, whisk together the egg yolks, sugar and vanilla extract, until it becomes a light yellow cream. Blend in the mascarpone cheese in this cream and set aside;
- Place the coffee (and the brandy or rum if you decide to use it) in a bowl and quickly dip 12 ladyfingers, one by one, without soaking them too much, and line the bottom of an 8 inch square baking dish;
- Cover the soaked ladyfingers with half the cream;
- Dip the other 12 ladyfingers in the coffee and make another layer over the cream. Spread the rest of the cream over this second layer;
- Cover and chill in refrigerator for at least 2 hours;
- Before serving, sprinkle the top with cocoa powder.
